Creating Your Lead Magnet

Reuse Your Top Performing Pieces of Content

If you’re writing regularly, your backlog of articles and stories will make for a great short eBook—or an email course.

Does reusing existing content sound like cheating?

Some ideal readers didn’t see your content the first time. So why let your hard work go to waste?

Using Google Analytics, I found the top 20 posts on my website for the past 90 days. I copied the post headline and URL and put it into a Google Sheet.

This sheet acts as a library of potential content to turn into lead magnets. And it helps me spot places on my site to promote my lead magnets.

Don’t have much web traffic or even a website?

Use your social media stats to find top-performing stories. Pick the ones that got the most reads.

Dump them into a spreadsheet and refine your list to 5 or 10 posts. Now, you’re going to use this content as a lead magnet.

Prompt ChatGPT For Outcome-Based Lead Magnets (Advanced)

You can use AI to help rework your existing content into something people will hand over their best email address to get.

If you’re stuck, copy the headlines of your popular articles into ChatGPT. Ask it to generate 5–10 lead magnet ideas for getting your audience from point A to point B.

  • Try these two prompts:
  • “My audience is X, and they’re struggling with Y. Suggest 10 ideas for lead magnets I can create for this audience. Put the results in an easy-to-understand table. The first column should indicate their problem, and the second an outcome-based lead magnet.”
  • And:
  • "Please suggest a lead magnet that I can create based on the below list of my top 10 performing posts. The lead magnets should be tailored to each specific post and aim to provide additional value to the readers. Your suggestions should consider the content of each post and offer relevant and compelling resources that would entice readers to subscribe or take further action. Be creative in your approach and ensure that the lead magnets are appealing and beneficial for the target audience of each post."

Now, see if you have content you can edit and reposition while addressing outcomes for readers.

Write A Lead Magnet Headline

A good lead magnet needs a compelling headline. I asked ChatGPT to write ten headlines for my lead magnet. I just pasted the text below this prompt.

  • Here’s the prompt:
  • Create five compelling and transformation-based headlines and subheadlines for the lead magnet content you’re about to paste. Each headline and subheadline should effectively communicate the transformative value of the lead magnet and entice potential readers to engage with the content. Ensure the headlines and subheadlines capture the essence of the lead magnet’s content and highlight the positive impact it can have on the reader’s life or business.Your response should be flexible and allow for various relevant and creative headlines and subheadlines that align with the transformational nature of the lead magnet’s content. Each headline and subheadline should be engaging, descriptive, and focused on the potential positive changes the reader can expect.

You can use the results on the lead magnet, landing page, or pop-up. Ask ChatGPT for ten headlines so you can A/B test.

Design Your Lead Magnet In Canva

Canva contains checklists, reports, guides, PDFS, and infographics templates. Search for a template based on your preferred content format.

Avoid spending more than 30 minutes on design. Paste in your copy and edit. Your goal is to see if the lead agent attracts subscribers, NOT create a visual masterpiece. Done is good enough.

I found a Canva template and copied and pasted my content into it. I spent 30 minutes editing, exporting the PDF, and uploading it to ConvertKit.
